Deborah at the National Science Teachers Association conference 2017

The kids were completely enthralled with what you had to share with them. Thank you for all of the materials that you came with, to flesh out and support all of the fascinating details that comprised your journey writing about Beauty’s extraordinary story.
— Lorraine Der, Children's Librarian, Hamilton-Wenham Library, Hamilton, Massachusetts

My books cover many topics, nonfiction and fiction. I can speak about:

BEAUTY AND THE BEAK, my new book about the bald eagle who received a 3D-printed prosthetic beak, and my other books including Jimmy the Joey
—STEM and the connection between science, tech-nology and literacy (including NGSS)
—Environmental conservation/bald eagles/koalas/ocean science/ wildlife rescue/animal adaptations
—From brainstorm to book:
where I get ideas/inspiration/research/using strong words/rhyme and rhythm/collaboration/the work of being a writer/
Charlotte's Web and the power of words

I tailor every presentation to your school and group. My honorarium is based on the audience size and presentation length. Book purchases can be arranged for my visits.

My presentations are fun, content-rich, interactive—everyone gets to ask lots of questions—and highly engaging for both children and adults. I speak at conferences, schools, libraries and events coast to coast, for all ages and grades. E-mail me via the contact form and let me know what kind of program you would like!

I copresented about BEATY AND THE BEAK at the 2017 National Science Teachers Association conference, with NSTA past president Karen Ostlund. On October 24, I will speak at the New England Library Association conference.

My coauthor on BEAUTY AND THE BEAK, Jane Veltkamp, does author visits and live raptor programs in Idaho and several surrounding states. She will be speaking about Beauty at the Pacific Northwest Library Association conference in August, and the Idaho Science and Math Conference and Idaho Library Association Conference in October.
